FLSA STATUS:                    Non-Exempt

STARTING SALARY:           Negotiable DOE


Position Purpose

The Fire Chief is directly responsible to the Mayor and Village Administrator of the Village of Robbins.  The Fire Chief will have an array of administrative duties as well as fire and emergency medical system (EMS) related response duties. The Fire Chief complies with all applicable directives, policies and procedures, standard operating guidelines of the Robbins Fire Department, Village of Robbins Personnel Handbook and Mutual Aid Box Alarm (MABAS) Division 22; as well as insuring the compliance of those under their command.

Job Duties

Essential Functions:

  • Be directly responsible to the Mayor of the Village of Robbins

  •  Have flexible availability to work various hours of up to 30 hours per week or more in case of an emergency

  • Manage and be responsible for subordinates’ work performance.

  • Become familiar with NFPA standards, OSFM standards and EMS System Region XI SOP’s Policies and Procedures

  •  Have a keen understanding with the collective bargaining agreement between SEIU FF’s and The Village of Robbins

  • Maintain files of fire personnel of their professional certifications, licenses and training records per the standard of the Office of the State Fire Marshal

  • Prepare a monthly schedule (to be posted no later than the 25th of the previous month) for Firefighters.

  • Maintain a file of the maintenance schedule for all fire and EMS vehicles.

  •  Respond to communications; text, phone messages, phone calls in a timely manner (within an hour or less) unless unusual circumstances and emails within 24 hours.

  • Delegate duties to their subordinates as appropriate.

  • Reconcile the log book with the calls ran on the previous days.

  • Oversee NIFRS compliance once program has been rolled out

  • Oversee training and operations

  • Respond to FOIA requests within 48 hours.

  • Any other assigned duties deemed necessary by the Mayor and Village Administrator

The selection process includes an application process, interview process, drug screening and background check. The position is open until filled. The position is expected to be filled as soon as the interview process and background checks are completed. May require a 90 day probation period DOE.
